ROGER EBERT GOES OFF ON JOHN MCCAIN

Film critic can't understand why GOP nominee couldn't look Obama in the eye during debate. September 30, 2008

*Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert did not appreciate the nonverbal behavior of Sen. John McCain during Friday's first presidential debate with Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

The longtime movie reviewer took personal offense at McCain's body language, particularly the GOP senator's failure to even look at Obama.

The following is Ebert's blog in its entirety:

Guess who's not coming to dinner - by Roger Ebert

I do not like you, John McCain. My feeling has nothing to do with issues. It has to do with common courtesy. During the debate, you refused to look Barack Obama in the eye. Indeed, you refused to look at him at all. Even when the two of you shook hands at the start, you used your eyes only to locate his hand, and then gazed past him as you shook it.

Obama is my guy. If you are rude to him, you are rude to me. If you came to dinner at my house and refused to look at or speak with one of my guests, that would be bad manners and I would be offended. Same thing if I went to your house. During the debate, you were America's guest.

What was your problem? Do you hold this man in such contempt that you cannot bear to gaze upon him? Will you not even speak to him directly?

Do you think he doesn't have the right to be running for President?

Were you angry because after you said you wouldn't attend the debate, he said a President should be able to concern himself with two things at the same time? He was right. The proof is, you were there. Were you angry with him because he called your bluff?

During the debate, Jim Lehrer repeatedly called upon both candidates to speak directly to each other. Obama looked at you. He addressed you as "John," which as a fellow senator is his privilege. His body language was open. You stared straight ahead, or at Lehrer, or into space. Your jaw was clinched. You had a tight little smile, or a grimace, or a little shake of your head.

I had to do two things at once while watching the debate. I had to listen to what was being said. And I had to process your rigid and contemptuous behavior. If you were at a wedding and the father of the groom refused to look at or speak to the bride, how would that make you feel? Especially if you were the father of the bride?

You made a TV commercial showing the moments Obama agreed with you.

Everybody knows he did. Did his agreement show honesty, or weakness?

It is significant that you said it proved he was not ready to lead.

What is the better leadership quality: (1) Willingness to listen to your opponent, and keep an open mind? (2) Rigidly ignoring him? Which of the two of you better demonstrated the bipartisan spirit you say you represent? Was there anything he said that you agreed with? Could you have brought yourself to say so?

I'm not the only one who noticed your odd, hostile behavior. Just about everybody did. I'm sure many of your supporters must have sensed the tension. Before the debate, pundits were wondering if you might explode in a display of your famous temper.

I think we saw that happen, all right, but it was an implosion. I have instructed my wife to exclude you from any future dinner parties

Chris Rock on Larry King

I thought this was a good interview. Larry tried to catch Mr. Rock on changes in the menu if Barack Obama were elected president, but Mr. Rock slipped right by with a great comeback.

You all have a great and blessed day. PEACE!

Daddy.

A Very Interesting Take on the Bailout

The Rich Are Staging a Coup Right Now

Posted by Michael Moore,
MichaelMoore.com at 8:36 AM on September 29, 2008.

The biggest robbery in the history of this country is taking place as you read this.

Friends,
Let me cut to the chase. The biggest robbery in the history of this country is taking place as you read this. Though no guns are being used, 300 million hostages are being taken. Make no mistake about it: After stealing a half trillion dollars to line the pockets of their war-profiteering backers for the past five years, after lining the pockets of their fellow oilmen to the tune of over a hundred billion dollars in just the last two years, Bush and his cronies -- who must soon vacate the White House -- are looting the U.S. Treasury of every dollar they can grab. They are swiping as much of the silverware as they can on their way out the door.

No matter what they say, no matter how many scare words they use, they are up to their old tricks of creating fear and confusion in order to make and keep themselves and the upper one percent filthy rich. Just read the first four paragraphs of the
lead story in last Monday's New York Times and you can see what the real deal is:
"Even as policy makers worked on details of a $700 billion bailout of the financial industry, Wall Street began looking for ways to profit from it.
"Financial firms were lobbying to have all manner of troubled investments covered, not just those related to mortgages.

"At the same time, investment firms were jockeying to oversee all the assets that Treasury plans to take off the books of financial institutions, a role that could earn them hundreds of millions of dollars a year in fees.
"Nobody wants to be left out of Treasury's proposal to buy up bad assets of financial institutions."

Unbelievable. Wall Street and its backers created this mess and now they are going to clean up like bandits. Even Rudy Giuliani is lobbying for his firm to be
hired (and paid) to "consult" in the bailout.

The problem is, nobody truly knows what this "collapse" is all about. Even Treasury Secretary Paulson admitted he doesn't know the exact amount that is needed (he just picked the $700 billion number out of his head!). The head of the congressional budget office said he can't figure it out nor can he explain it to anyone.

And yet, they are screeching about how the end is near! Panic! Recession! The Great Depression! Y2K! Bird flu! Killer bees! We must pass the bailout bill today!! The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
Falling for whom? NOTHING in this "bailout" package will lower the price of the gas you have to put in your car to get to work. NOTHING in this bill will protect you from losing your home. NOTHING in this bill will give you health insurance.
Health insurance? Mike, why are you bringing this up? What's this got to do with the Wall Street collapse?

It has everything to do with it. This so-called "collapse" was triggered by the massive defaulting and foreclosures going on with people's home mortgages. Do you know why so many Americans are losing their homes? To hear the Republicans describe it, it's because too many working class idiots were given mortgages that they really couldn't afford. Here's the truth: The number one cause of people declaring bankruptcy is because of
medical bills. Let me state this simply: If we had had universal health coverage, this mortgage "crisis" may never have happened.

This bailout's mission is to protect the obscene amount of wealth that has been accumulated in the last eight years. It's to protect the top shareholders who own and control corporate America. It's to make sure their yachts and mansions and "way of life" go uninterrupted while the rest of America suffers and struggles to pay the bills. Let the rich suffer for once. Let them pay for the bailout. We are spending 400 million dollars a day on the war in Iraq. Let them end the war immediately and save us all another half-trillion dollars!

I have to stop writing this and you have to stop reading it. They are staging a financial coup this morning in our country. They are hoping Congress will act fast before they stop to think, before we have a chance to stop them ourselves. So stop reading this and do something -- NOW! Here's what you can do immediately:

1.
Call or e-mail Senator Obama. Tell him he does not need to be sitting there trying to help prop up Bush and Cheney and the mess they've made. Tell him we know he has the smarts to slow this thing down and figure out what's the best route to take. Tell him the rich have to pay for whatever help is offered. Use the leverage we have now to insist on a moratorium on home foreclosures, to insist on a move to universal health coverage, and tell him that we the people need to be in charge of the economic decisions that affect our lives, not the barons of Wall Street.

2. Take to the streets.
Participate in one of the hundreds of quickly-called demonstrations that are taking place all over the country (especially those near Wall Street and DC).

3. Call your Representative in Congress and your Senators. (
click here to find their phone numbers). Tell them what you told Senator Obama.
When you screw up in life, there is hell to pay. Each and every one of you reading this knows that basic lesson and has paid the consequences of your actions at some point. In this great democracy, we cannot let there be one set of rules for the vast majority of hard-working citizens, and another set of rules for the elite, who, when they screw up, are handed one more gift on a silver platter. No more! Not again!

Yours,
Michael Moore
MMFlint@aol.comMichaelMoore.com

P.S. Having read further the details of this bailout bill, you need to know you are being lied to. They talk about how they will prevent golden parachutes. It says NOTHING about what these executives and fat cats will make in SALARY.

According to Rep. Brad Sherman of California, these top managers will continue to receive million-dollar-a-month paychecks under this new bill. There is no direct ownership given to the American people for the money being handed over.

Foreign banks and investors will be allowed to receive billion-dollar handouts. A large chunk of this $700 billion is going to be given directly to Chinese and Middle Eastern banks. There is NO guarantee of ever seeing that money again.
P.P.S. From talking to people I know in DC, they say the reason so many Dems are behind this is because Wall Street this weekend put a gun to their heads and said either turn over the $700 billion or the first thing we'll start blowing up are the pension funds and 401(k)s of your middle class constituents.

The Dems are scared they may make good on their threat. But this is not the time to back down or act like the typical Democrat we have witnessed for the last eight years. The Dems handed a stolen election over to Bush. The Dems gave Bush the votes he needed to invade a sovereign country. Once they took over Congress in 2007, they refused to pull the plug on the war. And now they have been cowered into being accomplices in the crime of the century.

You have to call them now and say "NO!" If we let them do this, just imagine how hard it will be to get anything good done when President Obama is in the White House. THESE DEMOCRATS ARE ONLY AS STRONG AS THE BACKBONE WE GIVE THEM. CALL CONGRESS NOW.

Is it Live or Memorex?

You be the judge.

And a Mighty Hi-ho Silver!

09-26-2008

Okay! So John McInsane wants to suspend his campaign for what now?

He rode into town to squash the ne'er-do-well’s and take control of the situation. The only problem is he didn’t say much. He didn’t inject constructive anything into the conversation. But this is the guy that would have us all believe this bailout problem can’t be solved unless he solves it. (Didn’t he admit that economics were not his strong suit?)

Well I’m sure that’s what he was counting on. From what I could see from the news is that these folks were on track to have a solution very soon. That is until the Lone McInsane rode in. And once he arrived, nothing. I mean the man just sat there looking like he was overpowered, and out matched. But he did find time to throw a wrench into the machine!

At least Barack Obama asked for a more definitive answer from the folks in the room. And he continued to ask the right questions. Like my pahtnah Reggie Carter always says “A closed mouth doesn’t get fed”.

Seems to me for a guy who openly admitted knowing very little about economics, he would have been a bit more inquisitive.

So I guess now he plans on making the debate this evening.

Damn, I know he isn't champing at the bit to stand next to Barack Obama with 100 million viewers checking out his shortcomings on the economy. And believe me, that's what Americans are concerned about. And they want answers.

Matt Cooper (The Atlantic)
notes:
“McCain certainly hasn't helped and now we're at a point where a deal seems unlikely tomorrow in time for the debate which means McCain will have to make another decision--whether to swallow his pride and show up for the Meeting in Mississippi or be the biggest no-show in the history of American politics. Since he doesn't seem to have added anything to the negotiations in Washington, it's hard to see why on earth he shouldn't show up for the debate with Barack Obama”.

PEACE!

Daddy.

McCain's "Mission Accomplished" Stunt

Max Bergmann
Posted September 26, 2008 10:03 AM (EST)

History is repeating itself.

George Bush staged perhaps the biggest political stunt in American history when he put on a flight suite, landed on an aircraft carrier, and declared "mission accomplished" -- just as the war in Iraq had already begun to go south as the occupation began to unravel.

John McCain has now decided to do something similar.

With the economy in crisis and McCain's poll numbers tanking, McCain decided to stage his own "mission accomplished" stunt. By "suspending his campaign" and injecting himself into the delicate negotiating process on the Hill -- despite knowing nothing about the economy and not having been to the Senate to vote since April 7th -- McCain has completely torpedoed a potential deal.

Of course, this was by design, because McCain has to be seen as the guy who brought Republicans on board. When McCain arrived yesterday in the Senate a deal had already been reached, which was bad news for McCain, because it would be impossible for him to take credit. McCain then decided to go over to the House side to meet with Minority Leader Boehner and magically a few hours later at the White House meeting the deal was scuttled.

McCain's latest stunt completely discredits those, like David Brooks, who have excused McCain's despicable behavior thus far, as simply a byproduct of a modern campaign. The fact that John McCain would so brazenly play politics with this economic crisis, when people's retirement accounts are teetering in the balance, small businesses can't get loans, and banks are collapsing, demonstrates that McCain is not just willing to run a dishonorable campaign to become president, but he is willing to destroy the country as well. Country first, indeed.

Is it Really Our Fault?

09-23-2008
Daddy

Neil Cavuto say’s it’s the fault of minorities that there is a mortgage meltdown.

Okay I know there are a lot of Black folks that got into a home loan cheap only to find out that in 2-3 years they couldn’t afford the monthly payment.

But at the same time there are a hell of a lot more White middle and upper class folks that can’t make their mortgage payment either. And especially when you see the million dollar homes on all of the news channels. Black folks aren’t buying those homes. And if they are we know for sure that there are not enough of them to cause a mortgage meltdown.

Now it’s our fault. No fault to the lender, just the people who were enticed. Yes I said enticed into a loan payment that looked far too good to be true. And now we see they were too good to be true. And you know you can't pay out what you don't bring in. Well you should know that.

Washington deregulated the mortgage machine, and then it was every man for himself.

Hey I know some of those loans looked good. They tried to give me money. I needed $110.000 for a home makeover. “Hey no problem” they said. Then they informed me that if I were to take $200,000 they could fix it so my payment wouldn’t go up for 5 years. Well I thought about it for about 30 seconds. That was an easy one to figure out.

No way Jose’. As a matter of fact why don’t you just give me $85,000, and let’s call this a done deal. And 5 years after the loan my wife and I are in a very affordable, FIXED loan. Even if I lose my job (God forbid) I have a rate that I could make working at McDonalds.

My point being, that you can try to lay blame on the Black folks, the lenders, other minorities, Washington, whoever. You know, I've never seen a statistic on the folks that got caught up in this thing trying to flip houses! I know there are quite a few of them involved.

It all comes down to the fact that these people (Black, White or whatever) took money they couldn’t afford to pay back. Hey I wanted to sell my little house and get in on the boom with everyone else. But I couldn’t, knowing that these days having a job does not mean lifetime security as it once did. And I can understand the thinking of some folks for the first time in their lives being able to get into a home of their own.

Hey, I just don’t like these people laying this off on minorities. This is a problem for every race. And now it's going to become a problem for those of us that chose to do the right thing.

PEACE!

Daddy.

Cavuto suggests Congress should have warned that "[l]oaning to minorities and risky folks is a disaster"

Summary: On September 18, Fox News' Neil Cavuto conflated giving home mortgages to minorities with risky lending practices, suggesting that there should have been "a clarion call that said, 'Fannie and Freddie are a disaster. Loaning to minorities and risky folks is a disaster.' "

Foreclosures Hitting Wealthy Areas
Posted on July 11th, 2008 by saman

Foreclosures are not only a problem of poor or middle class homeowners. The
foreclosure crisis has become so widespread that it is affecting the wealthy population of the United States.

As a rule, expensive houses do not go into foreclosure unless there has been a serious illness or death in the family and this has affected the finances of the family. However, this is no longer the reality.

Singer asks not to be confused with singer

Sheryl Renee, Denver
Wednesday, July 9, 2008

My name is Sheryl Renee. I am a Coloradan and a professional vocalist here in town. Please do not confuse me with Rene Marie, the woman who recently sang Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing at the mayor's State of the City speech.

Like Marie, I had the honor of being asked to perform the national anthem at a State of the City Address for our mayor, John Hickenlooper. I did so with the pride, honor and respect the anthem deserves.

Also like Marie, I am a black American, and I say to anyone and everyone: I love this country! This is my home, and through God's will, the perseverance of my ancestors and the hard work of my elders, I enjoy untold freedoms. Like all things in life, this country is far from perfect, but I will not spit on her.

I love our national anthem. Every time I sing The Star-Spangled Banner, I am moved, because I know that it means something to people in this country, and through my love of it, my delivery touches people.

So please don't confuse us. My name is Sheryl Renee - don't stop calling me to render this 70-second song. It truly means something.

But What About The Other Half?

09-22-2008
By Daddy.

Good morning, good morning.

I had written quite a few lines about the following story I read at Field Negro this morning. And
after last weeks hate fest, I jumped in feverishly making my point about the shame of still having to deal with this type of thing in 2008.

Then something smacked me in the back of the head.

Barack Obama is half White. Duh!!

National Organization for Women PAC Endorses Obama-Biden

STATEMENT OF KIM GANDYChair, National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC)
September 16, 2008

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce today, on behalf of the nation's oldest and largest women's rights organization, that the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC) proudly endorses Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.

It is no coincidence that I am joined in this announcement by so many allied organizations that collectively represent a broad and diverse cross-section of U.S. women. From teachers to social workers, from business owners to college students, women in this country are lining up behind the candidate who is out there every day standing up -- clearly and consistently -- for women. Women of all ages, races and ethnicities are coming together in support of Sen. Obama and his pledge to fulfill this country's promise of equal opportunity for our daughters as well as all our sons.

Although it is very unusual for us to endorse in a presidential election, this is an unprecedented candidate and an unprecedented time for our country. The NOW PAC reviewed Sen. Obama's record and public statements on issues that disproportionately affect the women of this nation, and I spoke with him at length about his commitment to women's equality. For example:

On pay equity. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation to end wage discrimination against women.

On reproductive rights. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, to strengthen access to contraception and reproductive health care, and prevent unwanted pregnancies. He strongly supports Roe v. Wade and will oppose any efforts to overturn it.

On violence against women. Sen. Obama supports the continued reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act -- of which Sen. Joe Biden is the chief sponsor -- as well as the Security and Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Act, which is legislation to provide legal, medical and financial support to victims of domestic violence.

On the Supreme Court. Sen. Obama opposed the nominations of George Bush's extreme right-wing nominees to the Supreme Court, who have consistently ruled against women's rights,
For more than a decade, Barack Obama has said "yes" to women's rights, while John McCain has consistently said "no" - NO to pay equity, NO to contraceptive access and reproductive rights, NO to appointing Supreme Court judges who will uphold women's rights and civil rights, NO to funding shelters and other anti-violence programs, and NO to supporting working moms and dads with policies that support work/life balance.

NOW supported Sen. Hillary Clinton in the primary, and now we join with her in saying "NO" -- No Way, No How, No McCain! And we proudly stand arm-in-arm with her in putting our hopes and our dreams, our hard work and our hard-earned money, behind the next President of the United States -- Barack Obama, and his running mate, longtime friend and ally of women, Sen. Joe Biden.

Palin: wrong woman, wrong message

By Gloria Steinem September 9,4, 2008

“Sarah Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger”. [Gloria Steinem]

Here's the good news: Women have become so politically powerful that even the anti-feminist right wing -- the folks with a headlock on the Republican Party -- are trying to appease the gender gap with a first-ever female vice president. We owe this to women -- and to many men too -- who have picketed, gone on hunger strikes or confronted violence at the polls so women can vote.

We owe it to Shirley Chisholm, who first took the "white-male-only" sign off the White House, and to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who hung in there through ridicule and misogyny to win 18 million votes.

But here is even better news: It won't work. This isn't the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need.

Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie.

Hundreds turn out for anti-Palin protest

09-17-08

This Sunday Sept. 14th outside on the lawn in front of the Loussac Library in midtown Anchorage.

The protest came about two hours after Palin delivered a rousing speech at Anchorage's new convention center before leaving the state to return to the campaign trail.

The protesters, including supporters of presidential candidate Barack Obama and those who don't agree with Palin's positions on abortion, polar bears, Iraq and other issues, lined one side of the street near the Loussac Library. Home made signs were encouraged, and the idea was to make a statement that Sarah Palin does not speak for all Alaskan women.

Count the Lies

09-16-08

John McCain may be trying to sell himself as a "maverick" and a "straight talker" who will tell the truth no matter the consequences, but independent, non-
partisan watchdog groups aren't buying it.
But, since he wrapped up his party's nomination, John McCain has offered more of the same false attacks and smears. To date, independent, nonpartisan fact checkers have published more than 50 fact checks debunking John McCain's lies and distortions.

To hold John McCain accountable to his own standard, the Democratic National Committee will count and chronicle the lies here on the McCainPedia's "Count the Lies" page.

IF YOU'RE BLACK YOU HAVE TO BE 10 TIMES BETTER THAN YOUR WHITE OPPONENT!

This great, but you know you'll never hear this through the MSM.

This is an article from an Arkansas newspaper.

It's about time someone else noticed the same thing Black folks have known forever, but always told we're making excuses. It's amazing to me that even though the facts are there for everyone to see, they still believe the lies coming from the McInsane campaign! God bless us all!

THE BIG DIFFERENCE

Black teen pregnancies? A 'crisis' in black America.

White teen pregnancies? A 'blessed event.'

If you grow up in Hawaii, you're 'exotic.'

Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers; you're the quintessential 'American story.'

Similarly, if you name your kid Barack you're 'unpatriotic.'
Name your kid Track; you're 'colorful.'

If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual, you're 'reckless.'

A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a 'maverick.'

If you spend 3 years as a community organizer growing your organization from a staff of 1 to 13 and your budget from $70,000 to $400,000, then become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new African-American voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, then spend nearly 8 more years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, becoming chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, then spend nearly 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of nearly 13 million people, sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you are 'woefully inexperienced'.

If you spend 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, then spend 20 months as the governor of a state with 650,000 people, you've got the 'most executive experience' of anyone on either ticket, are the Commander in Chief of the Alaska military and are well qualified to lead the nation should you be called upon to do so because your state is the closest state to Russia.

If you are a Democratic male candidate who is popular with millions of people, you are an 'arrogant celebrity'.

If you are a popular Republican female candidate, you are 'energizing the base'.

If you are a younger male candidate who thinks for himself and makes his own decisions, you are 'presumptuous'.

If you are an older male candidate who makes last minute decisions you refuse to explain, you are a 'shoot from the hip' maverick.

If you are a candidate with a Harvard law degree you are an elitist 'out of touch' with the real America.

If you are a legacy (dad and granddad were admirals) graduate of Annapolis, graduating fifth from the bottom of your class, with multiple disciplinary infractions, you are a 'hero'.

If you manage a multi-million dollar nationwide campaign, you are an 'empty suit'.

If you are a part-time mayor of a town of 7000 people, you are an 'experienced executive'.

If you go to a south side Chicago church, your beliefs are 'extremist'.

If you believe in creationism and don't believe global warming is man made, you are 'strongly principled'.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years with whom you are raising 2 beautiful daughters, you're 'risky'.

If you're a black single mother of 4 who waits for 22 hours after her water breaks to seek medical attention, you're 'an irresponsible parent', endangering the life of your unborn child, but if you're a white married mother who waits 22 hours, you're 'spunky'.

If you're a 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton, the right-wing press calls you 'First dog.'

If you're a 17-year old pregnant unwed daughter of a Republican, the right-wing press calls you 'beautiful' and 'courageous.'

If you kill an endangered species, you're an excellent hunter.

If you have an abortion, you're not a Christian, you're a murderer (forget about if it happen while being date raped).

If you teach abstinence only in sex education, you get teen parents.

If you teach responsible, age-appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are 'eroding the fiber of society'.

If you're a minority and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates, you're a 'token hire.'

If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates, you're a 'game changer.'

PEACE!

Boycotting Oprah?

09-15-08
By Daddy

Okay. If I own a company, and you don’t like my services, what do you do?
You don’t deal with my company. Now I haven’t done anything to change my services in any way.

You just don’t like my company.
Check out this video.

So now you boycott my company. My other customers love me and my business. But since you didn’t get you way it’s time to bring me down.

This is how I view the boycott coming from Rethuglican women.

If you don’t like my company don’t use me. But trying to convince my other customers to boycott my services is pouting, and throwing a temper tantrum to get your way.

Now I ask you. Why would Oprah have Sarah Palin on her show if she’s not as she says trying to promote either Party?

And remember Barack Obama was on her show twice BEFORE he announced his bid for the White House.

We must support Oprah - Republican women are boycotting 'Oprah' show

Good morning, good morning!

I received this email this morning, and I had to post it.

So now that Oprah won’t kowtow to the Rethuglican Women, they are going boycott her show? Oprah is so much more than a Rethuglican interview.

Well let me get out of the way let Sistah Holly Cooper hip you to what is really is.

Peace!

Hello Everyone,

This has been an interesting 2 weeks of deceit and lies brought to us by the Republican Party. The GOP’s think that bringing a woman who describes herself as a “pit bull with lipstick” into the campaign is going to be a winning ticket. Apparently, the Republican Party thinks that Americans are ignorant or just stupid. Being a community organizer is apparently a big joke and now they want to protest our leading lady of television.

I DON’T THINK SO……

This morning several newscasts reported that the Republican women in Florida are organizing an Oprah Winfrey boycott for declining the decision to have Sarah Palin on her show as a guest.
We don’t have to agree with everything Oprah does or say, but we must all respect and support her decision.

Oprah is the hardest working woman in the history of entertainment and has open doors for people like Tyra Banks, Queen Latifah, Wendy Williams and so many others to begin talk shows.
She reinvented what African American beauty is considered on television and has provided hundreds if not thousands of people with job opportunities. Remember it was Oprah who traveled to New Orleans after Katrina and insisted that they let her into the Superdome that reaped of death and feces.

It was the first time I saw her angry and was not accepting 'NO' for an answer. She was on the verge of knocking someone out because it was such a personal tragedy for all of us. I remember crying as I watched her show but then again I cried for the entire week that I watched my people dying on CNN, waiting for assistance from The Bush Administration to rescue U.S. citizens, because Condi was busy shoe shopping in NYC and Bush and Cheney were on vacation and missed the International coverage that we all witnessed for over 7 long days and nights.

It was Oprah who started the first efforts through her Angel Network to provide homes for displaced survivors from Katrina and called upon her friends for donations of new homes, not the leadership of the Republican government.

Oprah has never campaigned or publicly endorsed anyone until Senator Obama because she believed before most Americans could properly pronounce his name. Now, some of us are on the Obama staff, volunteers, donors, etc., because we all believe in him. Oprah was instrumental in bringing him national notoriety early in the election.

I AM ASKING FOR EVERYONE TO TIVO, DVR AND SPREAD THE WORD/FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO A MINIMUM OF 50 FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO WATCH/SUPPORT OPRAH’S SHOW THAT AIRES ON ABC NETWORK AT 4PM EST. CHECK YOUR LOCAL LISTING FOR STATION/TIME IN YOUR MARKET AND RECORD IT FOR AT LEAST 1 MONTH.

WE MUST SPEAK CLEAR AND LOUD THROUGH THE NEILSON RATINGS THAT REPUBLICAN WOMEN HAVE NO POWER AND WILL NOT AFFECT OPRAH’S RATINGS, BECAUSE SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY NO THANK YOU TO PALIN OR ANYONE ELSE THAT SHE DECLINES AS A GUEST.

IT IS NOT CALLED THE REPUBLICAN WOMEN SHOW, IT IS THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW!!!!!!!

IF OPRAH SAYS SHE DOESN’T WANT TO USE HER SHOW, IN WHICH SHE CREATED OVER 15 YEARS AGO FOR POLITICAL PLATFORMS, THEN SHE WILL NOT BE THREATENED BY IGNORANT SUPPORTERS OF THE PITBULL WITH LIPSTICK.
LETS CALL THIS “COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS ARE NO JOKE CAMPAIGN.”
THIS IS PART OF A 'CHANGE' WE CAN BELIEVE IN TOO!!!!!

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG AND DON’T FORGET TO SET YOUR TELEVISIONS FOR AT LEAST 1 MONTH OF TAPING THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW.

THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IS OVER AND WE WILL NOT BE PUSHED AROUND ANYMORE!!!!

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE, IT’S YOUR RIGHT AND DUTY!!!!!!

More Sarah Palin Tales From the Crypt!

Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes
By JO BECKER, PETER S. GOODMAN and MICHAEL POWELL
Published: September 13, 2008

Ms. Palin walks the national stage as a small-town foe of “good old boy” politics and a champion of ethics reform. The charismatic 44-year-old governor draws enthusiastic audiences and high approval rating.

And as the Republican vice-presidential nominee, she points to her management experience while deriding her Democratic rivals, Senators Barack Obama and Joseph R. Biden Jr., as speechmakers who never have run anything.

But an examination of her swift rise and record as mayor of Wasilla and then governor finds that her visceral style and penchant for attacking critics — she sometimes calls local opponents “haters” — contrasts with her carefully crafted public image.

Throughout her political career, she has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to a review of public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials.

Intolerance thrives in Palin's Pacific Northwest

Catherine McNicol Stock is chair of the history department at Connecticut College and author of "Rural Radicals: Righteous Rage in the American Grain"

Despite her efforts to portray herself as an average, small-town, "folksy" American, Sarah Palin's political views - ardently pro-gun, pro-censorship, antichoice and antigay - make John McCain's conservative credentials pale in comparison. What few observers have said, however, is these beliefs are not just extreme - they are radical, and even bear a comparison with some of the most notorious "rural radicals" of our time.

The Field Negro

Although home to tens of thousands of native peoples, Alaska is not much different in terms of diversity from the other states of the region. African Americans live in areas near important military installations in Anchorage and Fairbanks and almost nowhere else. Wasilla, where Sarah Palin was mayor, makes the census' list of the top 10 Alaskan communities with the largest number of African Americans because they make up a full 1 percent of the population. Rough calculations suggest that 65 blacks lived in the town.

But the region also must be defined by its history of intolerance, resentment, antistatism and violence. Appearing in the region in the 1980s and 1990s were some of the most notorious "hate radicals" of our time: militia groups, survivalists, Identity Christians, secessionists, white supremacists and others.

Some simply hated the federal government, like Randy Weaver of Ruby Ridge, Idaho, a survivalist whose wife and child died when their compound was fired upon by FBI agents attempting to arrest him on gun charges. "Whether we live or whether we die," Weaver said, 'we will not obey this lawless government.'

Other groups, like the Aryan Nation, with headquarters in Hayden Lake, Idaho, actively planned to rid the United States of African Americans, Jews, and other 'non-Aryan' peoples. A few carried out their plans, murdering Jewish radio host Alan Berg in Denver, the Goldmark family in Seattle, an African American state trooper in Arkansas, Fish and Wildlife officials and FBI agents in Wyoming, North Dakota and Montana, and more than 160 federal employees and their children in Oklahoma City. I borrowed the title from Andrew Sullivan @ The Atlantic.com

After checking out some of the Palin interview with ABC’s Charles Gibson I think we can all start to get a picture of what we’re dealing with here. John McInsane no longer has to do interviews, press conferences, or even town hall meetings between now and the November elections. All he has to do is keep coming with the lying attack ads, and stand behind Caribou Barbie without a plan to take us into the next four years.

I don’t know about you, but just what is McInsane’s plan to make this country better? Where is he on the issues? We know HE has issues but, does he even have a clue?
The whole world of media is watching Caribou Barbie. Which just may turnout to be a plus for Barack Obama. She really doesn’t seem to be any more intelligent than John McInsane. And that’s scary. I know there is more to check out in the next installment, but at least we now know that we are dealing with another fear based, war mongering Rethuglican. I believe in Israel, and I love my Jewish friends and relatives, but let’s be honest here. The way the Jewish government has been dealing with the Palestinians I think it's time for Diplomacy rather than "let's go bomb somebody".

Caribou Barbie isn’t as sharp as they would have you believe. The Rethugs may want to keep her on script from now on. She doesn’t do very well without it from what I could tell. (Doctrine, Caribou. Doctrine. Duh!)

We now need Charles Gibson to ask the Alaska questions. Please Gov., tell us about your achievements. Give insight to your overwhelming experience. Tell us about your anti-Semitic Reverend. You know the one you were on stage with in the video that now can’t be found anywhere on the internet. Tell us the truth about the Bridge! Let us in on the whole dirty scandal about the brother in-law. Tell us more about the Red Neck Baby Daddy. Oh yes please tell us!

You know the one thing I did notice while at the Rethug convention is that besides having to hear about McInsane’s time as a POW - and believe me we heard enough on that subject – there were banners all the way around the arena that said “Country First”. Yeah right!

Have a great and blessed day. PEACE!

The GOP is working to keep eligible African-Americans from voting in several states.

‘Jim Crawford’ Republicans
BETWEEN THE LINES
Jonathan Alter

Sep 11, 2008 Updated: 2:37 p.m. ET Sep 11, 2008

It was a mainstay of Jim Crow segregation: for 100 years after the Civil War, Southern white Democrats kept eligible blacks from voting with poll taxes, literacy tests and property requirements. Starting in the 1960s, the U.S. Supreme Court declared these assaults on the heart of American democracy unconstitutional.

Now, with the help of a 2008 Supreme Court decision, Crawford vs. Marion County (Indiana) Election Board, white Republicans in some areas will keep eligible blacks from voting by requiring driver's licenses. Not only is this new-fangled discrimination constitutional, it's spreading.

GOP proponents of the move say they are merely trying to reduce voter fraud. But while occasional efforts to stuff ballot boxes through phony absentee voting still surface, the incidence of individual vote fraud—voting when you aren't eligible—is virtually non-existent, as "The Truth About Vote Fraud," a study by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University, clearly shows.

In other words, the problem Republicans claim they want to combat with increased ID requirements doesn't exist. Meanwhile, those ID hurdles facing individuals do nothing to stop the organized insiders who still try to game the system.

It has started.

Barack Obama will not be President of these United States of America. Yeah I said it. Well you can’t argue that if you really step back and take in the whole picture, it looks exactly like this. With just eight weeks until the November elections, the play has started.

This first scene is of the Rethuglican’s smearing Obama with outright lies. Whether they are lying about their accomplishments or doggin Barack Obama about his. And the Democrats keep falling for this shit.

The MSM will do anything to keep the ratings. This bitch and pony show is lying, but Barack Obama gets jammed as a sexist for calling them on their lies? Obama gets called on this lipstick shit, but no one say’s anything about McInsane, and Cheeeeny, or Bush saying the same thing, and they’ve got video? And Cheeeeeny joked about Chelsea Clinton being ugly. But Barack Obama is the sexist. This is bullshit.

For months now the MSM has been on Barack Obama to explain his position on the issues. And now that he’s trying to do that, all we hear are lie’s coming from the mouths of the Rethuglican’s.

The Bridge to Nowhere. But she still spent the money. Firing over brother in-law. Obama wants sex education for kindergarteners. Wants to raise your taxes. Lipstick on a pig. Obama is Muslim. Michelle Obama doesn’t like America. Obama is the cause of higher gas prices. Obama’s Rev. Wright hates America. Obama is a terrorist. He knows Richard Ayers.

These are all lies.

I need some one out there to tell me I’m paranoid. I need someone out there to convince me that I’m just being Conspiracy Brother!

I know I’ve said it before, but they have let Barack Obama have his fun. This novelty of a Black man as the nominee of the Democratic Party for POTUS.

“Yes let’s change history. Well kind of! You know we can’t let this Uppity Nigger think he’s above us. We have to take his ass down a few pegs to remind him just where he is”. And now it’s time to get down to business.

Westmoreland calls Obama ‘uppity'
By Mike Soraghan
Posted: 09/04/08 03:07 PM [ET]

Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland used the racially-tinged term "uppity" to describe Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama Thursday.

Westmoreland was discussing vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's speech with reporters outside the House chamber and was asked to compare her with Michelle Obama.

"Just from what little I’ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they're a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they're uppity," Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word “uppity,” Westmoreland said, “Uppity, yeah.”

You thought I was lying dincha?

In August, Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) told reporters, “When I hear the word ‘elitist’ linked with Barack Obama, to me, that is a code word for 'uppity.' I find it extremely offensive and John McCain should know better.”

Political consultant David Gergen, who has worked in both Republican and Democratic White Houses, said on ABC’s "This Week" that “As a native of the south, I can tell you, when you see this Charlton Heston ad, 'The One,' that's code for, 'He's uppity, he ought to stay in his place.' Everybody gets that who is from a Southern background.”

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said that Obama's middle name – Hussein – is relevant to the public discourse surrounding his candidacy, saying in March that if Obama were elected, "Then the radical Islamists, the al Qaeda, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on Sept. 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror."

At an April 12 event in his district, Kentucky Rep. Geoff Davis (R) said of Obama: “I’m going to tell you something: That boy’s finger does not need to be on the button. He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country.”

Huh huh! I told you. While we’ve been bombarded with lipstickshit, the real world has been going on around us. And it’s the same shit just a different day.

Now I certainly hope we can pull this off. But if our peoples keep falling for the bullshit it’s going to be hard. First of all know that the powers that be DO NOT WANT A BLACK MAN FOR POTUS!!!.

But one good thing has happened here. When they have to pull out the poor White woman against the big Black brute, we must be doing something right.

Ya’ll have a great and blessed day. PEACE!

Maddow's Debut Show Launches on MSNBC: She Fights Lies Uttered by Politicians, Repeated by Media

By The Masher, AlterNet.
Posted September 9, 2008.

Maddow shows that smart, provocative, truth-telling journalism and commentary has a potential massive audience on cable TV.

Monday, September 8
Rachel Maddow, Air America's homegrown star and the hottest new face on TV, is launching her very own new show tonight -- Monday, Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. on MSNBC -- and the Masher couldn't be happier.

There are thousands of people -- Facebookers and all -- who are planning parties to watch the debut. Let's all watch it by the millions and blow those ratings through the roof and show the MSM turkeys that smart, provocative, truth-telling journalism and commentary has a potential massive audience.

It goes without saying that Maddow has myriad fans from every walk of life. (Feel free to
visit the "unofficial" Rachel Maddow fan site.) Still, the Masher finds it rather astounding how much goodwill and admiration is being beamed to Maddow -- and how many unabashed sexual crushes. She must be feeling a super glow.

When AlterNet posted The Nation's article about Maddow by Rebecca Traister, the staff was astounded. AlterNet commenters are a very critical and cranky bunch -- and many a writer has freaked out, run away and decided not to engage with the sharp-tongued denizens of the AlterNet underground. But not for Maddow. It was a near-unanimous lovefest. There were hundreds of glowing love letters (hopefully we'll get a chance to share some of them with you soon).

The corporate media hasn't quite known what to make of Maddow, since her rise seems to have no historical parallels. The best way they have been able describe it is as the second coming of Keith Olbermann, for whom she has substituted on his signature show Countdown. According to New York Times TV
writer Bill Carter, the emergence of Maddow, along with Olbermann, has "led to an unofficial rebranding of MSNBC as the liberal alternative to Fox News, which is dominated by conservative hosts like Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity."

Of course Maddow is very different from Olbermann in style, temperament and approach. No doubt her show will strike a different chord than the sometimes bombastic approach that has made Olbermann Bill O'Reilly's bete noir and a very popular TV dude, but he hasn't exactly brought subtle analysis to cable TV. The Masher guesses that Maddow will be more unpredictable. In a telephone interview with Carter,
Maddow discussed her new role:

"This is great; getting a regular cable show is something I've wanted," Ms. Maddow said. She acknowledged that the intensity of the presidential race meant that will remain the focus through the election and probably for the first 100 days of a new administration. But she said she would likely reshape the show as more of a general news program after "this political Christmas" has come to an end. That is the kind of show she does on Air America, and she will continue that show after she joins MSNBC, she said. As for being branded another partisan voice from the left, Ms. Maddow said she was no more partisan than any other host in cable. "I am who I am," she said. She dismissed the expected criticism from the right, saying, "Everybody likes to work the refs to make their own kind of political hay."

McCain attacks on education

Washington Post Fact checker
09-10-08

"Education Week says Obama 'hasn't made a significant mark on education'. That he's 'elusive' on accountability.
A 'staunch defender of the existing public school monopoly.' Obama's one accomplishment? Legislation to teach 'comprehensive sex education' to kindergartners.'
--McCain "Education" Ad, September 7, 2008.

A new McCain ad caricatures Barack Obama's education record by claiming that his only achievement is to pass legislation ensuring "comprehensive sex education" for kindergartners. It implies that its critique of the Democratic presidential nominee has been endorsed by the non-partisan journal Education Week, when in fact it is a hotch-potch of quotes from a variety of sources stitched together to form a highly partisan political attack.

The Facts

Education Week bills itself as the "journal of record" for education professionals. In March last year, it ran a generally positive article about Obama, describing him as one of several Democratic candidates with a demonstrated interest in education policy. The article noted that Obama had gained considerable "grassroots experience" of education problems in Chicago as the member of a board of a school reform initiative known as the Annenberg Challenge. It went on to say that he had not made "a significant mark on education policy" in either the Illinois Senate or the U.S. Senate, but had pushed for the expansion of early childhood education.

The McCain ad includes captions attributing the quotes on accountability and Obama's alleged support for "the existing public school monopoly" to a Washington Post editorial and an op-ed in the Chicago Tribune. (Needless to say, the ad omitted the Post's criticism of McCain for failing to come up with a detailed education plan.) But a casual viewer or listener could easily get the impression that all the quotes came from Education Week.

The McCain ad is wrong when it claims--in a voice dripping with sarcasm--that Obama's "one accomplishment" in the education field was the sex education bill for kindergartners. While it is true that Obama supported the bill, he was not one of the sponsors. As far as kindergartners were concerned, the principal purpose of the bill was to make them aware of the risk of inappropriate touching and sexual predators. Other states, including California and Massachusetts, have passed similar legislation.

Obama was more closely identified with other education legislation in the Illinois State Senate, including a 2003 bill to double the number of Chicago charter schools from 15 to 30, which he co-sponsored. On substance, Obama has attempted to tread a fine line between his opposition to vouchers and his support for greater choice for parents, including support for charter schools. In a speech in Dayton earlier this week, he proposed doubling the funding for "responsible charter schools," along the lines of the earlier Chicago experiment.

The Pinocchio Test

Nobody expects television ads to be fair and objective analyses of public policy. Almost by definition, the ads are partisan sales pitches, designed to promote one political brand while running down the rival brand. But they should not misrepresent the record of the other side and should clearly distinguish quotes from non-partisan news sources from standard political rhetoric. The McCain "education" ad fails this test.
